National Preparedness Month

9/1/2015 (Permalink)

It's chilly in the mornings and evenings. It's breezy during the days. I seen pumpkins at a produce stand the other day. That can only mean one thing, it's almost FALL!!

It's the first day of September, and you may not know, but it's also the first day of National Preparedness Month. Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Preparedness Month encourages Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, schools, and communities.

First, you should know the types of disasters and emergencies that are likely in your area. For example, we are more likely to have tornadoes than we are wildfires. This week we will be talking about floods. Remember 4th of July weekend, anyone?

After you've identified which disasters are prevalent in your area, you should make a plan specific for each one.   Have a family meeting to go over them and get suggestions from your children so they become involved.
